Print Making : 3 Week Block

Monday, May 31st, 2010

3 WEEK BLOCK,

First Class,

Ms. Larkin,

Mater Dei,

The children began by drawing patterns and designs on to foam board.

They then inked the boards up and took prints from them.

They decided on a theme for their print and drew the images onto the foam board .These were also inked up and printed off.

They  used different types of bubble wrap to take prints. The bubble wrap was cut into circles, triangles and squares.

While the children were waiting for their turn to print they used oil pastels to add colour and decorate one side of the black card.

Once dry, I cut diagonal slits at each corner of the print towards the centre.

Then the children took turns and with the help of an extra pair of hands folded the corners into the centre to make a windmill.

Fabric And Fibre : 3 week block

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Senior Infants,

 Ms. Lindon,

 Warrenmount.

We started the Fabric and Fibre block by choosing different patterned fabrics to make houses from.

The children cut the material up into squares ,triangles and rectangles. They decided how many windows, doors etc their house should have.

Once they were happy with their house they glued the pieces of fabric together.

We decided we would make our own town using all of the houses.

The children worked together and painted a large background for their town.

They also made trees using corrugated card and coloured tissue paper. Everyone agreed that the trees looked like lollypops!!

The children worked together placing their houses across the painted background.

They attached their trees and made more trees using feathers.Yellow wool was used to make the sun.

Then they used oil pastels to add in extra details like people, clouds, flowers.

Once finished they decided on a name for their new town.

                                                           ”LOLLYPOP LANE”

We displayed it outside the classroom.

Summer Blooms 2: Mixed Media

Monday, May 31st, 2010

First Class,

Ms. Ryan

Mater Dei.

After making the large painted blooms we decided to use a mixture of materials to make another group piece.

Working on the back of some wallpaper, myself and Ms. Ryan divided up the class into colours.

Hot reds, oranges and yellows right through to the cooler greens , blues and purples.

Using P.V.A. glue the children tore the tissue paper into strips and stuck them down to the large sheet.

They also over lapped the colours and produced different tones.

The children then painted a mixture of objects like clothes pegs, corks and bottle tops.

Myself and Ms. Ryan then divided the class up into teams of four. They had to try and be as inventive as they could and

come up with ways of turning the painted objects into imaginary flowers.

They also made puppets of themselves and put these and their flower inventions into the finished piece.

Where The Wild Things Are: Group Work

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Senior Infants,

Ms. O’ Connell,

Warrenmount.

We started by reading the story “Where The Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak. We looked at the illustrations and imagined our own wild things.

After a colour workshop the children painted up several sheets of yellows, reds and blues.

They used these sheets to cut out leaves for our “Wild Things” jungle.

The children worked in groups making their own trees for the jungle.

They then made mini puppets of themselves. They worked again as a group to paint a large background.

We then put the whole piece together.
